* 2 Jul 1997 * So there hasn't been much activity around here for awhile, but I've thought about it and I don't want this page to deteriorate! So I'm adding a whole lotta stuff, including new files, new features (hopefully a message board and chatroom!), and whatever else I can think of to keep QBasic alive! Keep checking in the coming weeks for tons of new goodies.
* 10 May 1997 * I've got two alternate Q&A answerers now. If you want to help out, PLEASE let me know, because I've got a ton of mail to read and I want to make sure that you guys get the help you need. Anyhoo, I changed the catalog list format so that you didn't have to load the whole list every time. Plus, the graphics are kinda spiffy and it was fun to make them. Look for an update pretty soon with about 10-15 new files, plus some more cosmetic and utility changes. I'm still trying to get the stupid CGI scripts to work, too! Tah-tah for now.
* 25 Apr 1997 * Okay, so my e-mail works now (phew!).. I've completely switched over to SLIP.NET, and things should be shaping back up as I have a little more free time. Please don't expect e-mail replies to messages until 3 weeks after you send a message, because I have a backlog of about 350 messages (and besides, I'm doing this for free!). I'm working on two more tutorials which should be done in a week or so.
As for the CGI scripts like the WWWBOARD and guestbook, they aren't quite working yet. I'll be working on them, though, and I'll keep you posted.
* 31 Mar 1997 * So a lot has happened, but I haven't updated the page in a month! Well, it's because I've had my school's musical these past two weekends and haven't had much free time. However, a HUGE update is in the works with at least 10 new files and tons of new links!
As for the ISP switch, the bandwidth charges were just getting TOO HIGH. Sorry about any inconveniences it may cause, but I need to keep my costs low. This new ISP will give me a little more freedom with CGI scripts, so look for some nifty additions in the coming months.
I wrote the first CD today! Tonight, I should finish the rest of the pre-orders (there's eight), and send them off tomorrow. Sorry about how long this took, but my CD supplier was out of stock (I got the last 50 blank CDs).
Have fun programming, and please keep supporting The QBasic Page with your programs. I should give you E-mail replies to any mail you send me within 2 weeks from now on.
Welcome to The QBasic Page newsroom. In the first week of having a counter on the page, I've had about 450 hits! There's a lot more QB programmers on the 'net than I thought. I've added a bunch of programs to the page, thanks to a little bet of net searching and some submissions. Here you will find some of the news about QB and some innovations for the page. Please keep supporting the page, and it'll grow!
I've written to Microsoft concerning the copyright information for QB 4.5 (the compiler). If I get any response, I'll let everybody know.
I'm interested in setting up an e-mail directory for all QB programmers. Submit me your address and if I get enough I'll add it to the page.
Make sure that when you're e-mailing me, include a good email address. I've received a lot of good questions, but much of the mail I have sent has bounced back to me.
Wow, we've got a ton of hits now! :-) I haven't gotten many submissions in the past week or two, but I'm trying to add as many programs myself as possible. Please send in your programs!
I just added the first QB Challenge! If anyone has any ideas for more challenges, please let me know. I've also added the competition for "best program." Tell me what you think of both additions.
14 Jun 96 * We're up to 3500 hits now. I just don't see why Microsoft doesn't re-release a new version of QB. I added a few new programs last week, and should be adding some more if I get another submission or two.
I really enjoy getting e-mail, but give me a good return address! Please don't put me on any mailing lists without permission!
A second QB challenge was added a little bit ago, and we have our first winner for Challenge #1. Check out the challenge page to see who it is!
17 Jul 96 * Wow! Almost 7000 hits! I just added about 10 more programs. More will be added soon. Please submit your programs!
I finally got my e-mail to work again. However, I'm getting a lot less mail than I used to! Keep writing me!
14 Aug 96 * About 9500 hits! Almost to the big 10,000 mark. After a lot of down time for the page, I finally was able to update it today with a few good programs by the big M (Microsoft). I added a little Q&A and changed around the file index a bit. If anyone has any suggestions for the page, let me know, 'cause I'm looking for new stuff and ideas to add. Thanks!
14 Oct 96 * 2 months since I updated the news?!?! Holy schnikies! Anyway, I've been doing some updating to the page and have added some stuff. Check out the new graphics tutorial, chapter 2 of the QB tutorial, the newly organized catalog list, and the spiffy new toolbar that should be in place within a week or so.
I joined the Internet Link Exchange and the QBasic Programming Ring to bring more QB programmers together. If you have any comments on these two services then let me know, 'cuz they're new! That's it for this installment, I guess.
27 Oct 96 * The Link Exchange works well for me, and nobody's complained.. so... I'm keeping it. How is everybody tonight? Good! I just flew in from Boston and boy, are my arms tired!
Seriously now, I've added mailing list info - check the main page - and a few programs. Please do the page some good and nominate it for any awards you think it deserves. Everything's coming along quite nicely. This is fun!
A few quick thoughts - Please read the Q&A before you send me e-mail because I'm sick of reading the same questions over and over again. /\ I've stopped work on the toolbar because I don't have much free time, what with school, stage crew, and Model United Nations (for anyone who knows what that is). I'm still working on a files tutorial and have a schnazzy VGA/SB tic-tac-toe program which I'll put up soon. Until then, later!
29 Oct 96 * Sorry about some of those stupid mistakes I made while updating last time. Let me know when there's a problem!
07 Nov 96 * I found out how inaccurate the counter is - I really get more than 8000 hits a month! Woo-hah!
14 Nov 96 * Even more programs are on the page now... over 70! Wow! Anyway, I've shortened the E-mail turnaround time to about a week, but next week I'll have next to no time to answer mail. Sorry, but "hell week" (the week before my school's play) is next week, and I won't be home before 9 pm.
04 Dec 96 * It's been awhile.. but I finally am going to update a few things. I got *80* messages in less than a week.. I don't know how I'm going to read them all. If anyone would like to volunteer to be my Q&A helper-person, please let me know. You might get about 20 e-mails a week from me (forwarded, that is).
Anyhoo, expect a few changes here and there. I'm going to start using my WWNET.COM server for more space because I'm over my limit here... that way, I can put ASIC 5.0 online along with some larger programs.
10 Dec 96 * I have 150 messages to read, and am currently screening people for alternate Q&A answerers. I really really need your donations!
12 Dec 96 * I'm really getting into my e-mail. Stuff is getting answered. Anyway, I've got $60 from donations (from family and friends) already, and I'm hoping to get some from you guys. If I can raise $25/month after initial fees, we'll have our own domain name and 20 MEGS of space.. that means a LOT more programs go on-line! I also fixed the catalog-list of files, which had been messed up, and revised my submitting rules.
14 Dec 96 * Well, we're at the qbasic.com address! Yaay! I added hit counters on a few pages, a guestbook, and a bulletin board to chat on. More compilers will be added soon. I might be able to become a reseller for Liberty Basic and PowerBASIC to give discounts to all of you. Please donate! Please!
15 Dec 96 * I've changed my e-mail address to "mallard@qbasic.com". You can still write to "mallard@gcomm.com" if necessary.
22 Dec 96 * A lot is happening. I'm making a lot of deals to re-sell quality BASIC compilers and products - as soon as I get my tax license, you can purchase AutoBASIC, FutureBASIC II, ASIC, and True BASIC through The QBasic Page! This will let you replace QB 4.5 because Microsoft is so blind as to stop selling it.
8 Jan 97 * It's been a couple weeks, but I'm making a lot of changes around here. I just finished changing the catalog list of files to all-tables. It makes it a bit easier to read and find files you might be interested in. I also began selling a lot of compilers online. Everything seems to be running smoothly. Expect a lot of cosmetic changes in the page that should make everything look and feel better, giving the page a more seamless, intuitive interface. Happy new year!

1 Feb 97It's been two weeks, and stuff has happened. I haven't gotten many excellent programs in the mail, but there'll be four more today as I update the page. It looks like the QBasic CD is a go, and I should have a bunch made very soon. They'll have everything ZIPped and unzipped, descriptions, etc., so you can access all the nifty stuff on The QBasic Page easily and quickly. Other than that, not much is going on. Have a nice day!
